Le Sphinx is a Premium Steam Corvette class ship which was France's first 'paddle-steamer' naval vessel.
The namesake is from a warship that served in the Battle of Algiers.
It's noted in history for carrying the famed Luxor Obelisk from Egypt to France.
Le Sphinx was the first steam powered paddle steamer of the Marine Royale. With its additional steam engine it could out-run any sailing ship by sailing against the wind. This is state-of-the-art marine technology, packing enough firepower to protect your convoys.
This customized version has 16 guns, a strenthened hull, greater crew capacity and larger cargo holds than similar builds of the sphinx class.
With the addition of her steam engine, she has the capability to sail against the wind with a dead angle of 0°.
A revolutionary ship class in history, French Navy built Le Sphinx was the first of 100 ships laid down, and lead ship of her class. Initially rated as corvette, this ship pioneered the role of steamers in naval combat. Built in Rochefort, she was equipped with Newcomen steam engine built in Liverpool.
